Talking about kris, maybe what comes to our mind is mystical or supernatural things. However, in this discussion, we will explore historical information from the place to display the kris. It is one of the historical objects on display at the History of Java Museum. So, by knowing the history, we don't need to be afraid anymore when we see what the object looks like.
Each region certainly has a different tradition. The
tradition is there from our ancestors or our ancestors. Then it is carried out
from generation to generation so that the traditions still exist until now or
even disappear because of the times.
Blawong
One of the historical
relics in the History of Java Museum is a place to display a kris called Blawong. It appeared in the 17th century; this historical
object is still stored and well-preserved in the History of Java Museum even
though it is ancient. Blawong is
a place to display kris decorated with simple carvings of Arjuna and Dewi Sembadra. Blawong thought to have existed since the Mataram Kingdom
was led by Sultan Agung, which was around 1860.
For the Javanese people, Blawong does not only function as a place for
displaying kris. However, more than that, it can add charisma to the owner. Kris owners
in Java often decorate Blawong with
certain ornaments. In addition, Blawong is
considered too as a complement to the identity of the Javanese community. That
is why, in the past, almost every wall of Javanese houses always displayed Blawong with two kris mounted vertically.
There are lots of other historical relics on display and stored in the History of Java Museum. One of them is Blawong. Interesting objects for us to see as well as add new knowledge about this historical object.
